Summary

This trial tests whether taking 2 grams of spirulina daily for 8 weeks can improve metabolic health, body composition, sleep quality, and mood in mildly overweight postmenopausal women. Researchers will measure changes in blood sugar, cholesterol, weight, waist size, depression scores, and sleep quality. The goal is to see if this natural supplement can ease some of the common challenges of menopause.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
spirulina (a blue-green algae dietary supplement)
What this could lead to
If it works, spirulina could offer a natural option to help manage weight, blood sugar, sleep, and mood during menopause.
What could go wrong
This is a small, short-term trial (66 women, 8 weeks). Results may not apply broadly, and supplements are not regulated like drugs.
