C-Section drug strategy may boost Baby's health

NCT ID NCT06508359

First seen May 01, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study looked at 700 women having planned C-sections to see if giving blood pressure medicine before spinal anesthesia (prophylactic) or only after blood pressure drops (rescue) leads to better outcomes for newborns. The medicines tested were norepinephrine and phenylephrine. The main goal was to measure the baby's umbilical cord blood pH and base excess, which are markers of how well the baby tolerated the procedure.
