Scientists probe why some people struggle to hear in noise

NCT ID NCT01781039

Summary

This study aimed to understand why some people with hearing loss have trouble understanding speech, especially in noisy places. Researchers tested 186 adults with hearing loss to see how the health of their inner ear cells and nerves relates to their ability to pick out words. The goal was to gather information that could help predict who might benefit most from hearing aids.
