New study aims to stop early life support withdrawal in cardiac arrest patients

NCT ID NCT03261089

First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study looks at how doctors predict recovery for people who remain unconscious after a cardiac arrest. Researchers want to see if using a set of tests at specific times can give a clearer picture of a patient's chances. The goal is to help families and doctors wait longer before deciding to stop life support, reducing the risk of a self-fulfilling prophecy. The study will include 600 adults in the US, Brazil, and Italy.
