Numbing shot during labor may prevent painful tears in First-Time moms
NCT ID NCT07499752
First seen Apr 04, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether giving local anesthesia during the pushing stage of labor can lower the chance of perineal tears (including severe muscle injuries) in women having their first vaginal birth. About 1,350 first-time mothers will take part. If effective, this simple step could reduce pain and recovery time for many new moms.
