Dental breakthrough: keeping a tooth fragment may save your implant for years

NCT ID NCT07171866

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study tested a dental technique called Socket Shield, where a small piece of the tooth root is left in place after extraction to help preserve the bone and gum around a new dental implant. Twenty-five patients received an implant either right away or after a 6-month delay, and were followed for 6 years. The goal was to see which timing gives better long-term results for appearance and bone stability.
