Spine surgery showdown: which procedure works best for back pain?

NCT ID NCT03570801

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study looks at two common spine surgeries for people with a condition where a bone in the lower back slips forward, causing pain. The goal is to see if adding a fusion (joining bones with screws) to a simple decompression (removing pressure on nerves) leads to better results. About 660 adults are taking part, and the study also checks if having a panel of experts review cases improves patient satisfaction.
