NCT ID NCT02488733
First seen Jan 29, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 11 times
Summary
This study compares weight-loss surgery (sleeve gastrectomy) with standard medical treatment for people newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes who are obese (BMI 30-42). The goal is to see if surgery can lead to diabetes remission—meaning normal blood sugar without medication—for up to 6 years. About 30 adults from two Italian centers will participate, and researchers will also track weight loss and quality of life.
