Waking up foggy: study links sleep inertia to depression

NCT ID NCT06732284

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study looks at how sleep inertia—the grogginess you feel right after waking up—affects attention in people with major depression. Researchers will compare three groups: depressed patients with sleep inertia, depressed patients without it, and healthy controls. Participants will take a simple reaction-time test before and after sleep to measure changes in vigilance.
