Sleep apnea treatment may spare some AFib patients from heart ablation

NCT ID NCT04606693

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study looks at whether screening for and treating sleep apnea can improve heart rhythm in people with atrial fibrillation (AFib) who are considering a heart procedure called ablation. About 50 adults with AFib that hasn't improved with medication will be checked for sleep apnea. Those found to have it will receive standard sleep apnea treatment and be monitored for 3 months. If their heart rhythm improves, they may no longer need ablation. The goal is to see if managing sleep apnea can reduce the need for invasive heart treatment.
