Heart surgery blood filter shows kidney protection, now researchers dig deeper

NCT ID NCT06781294

First seen Jan 20, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study looks back at data from 343 heart surgery patients who had a blood purification device (oXiris) added to the heart-lung machine. Earlier results showed the device reduced acute kidney injury by about 12% in the first week. Now researchers will check if it also affects long-term kidney health, antibiotic levels, and other medications during surgery. The goal is to better understand how the device works and ensure it is safe.
