One artery or many? study tests best way to save legs from amputation
NCT ID NCT07383064
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compared angioplasty for one blocked leg artery versus multiple blocked arteries in 40 people with critical limb ischemia, a severe condition that can lead to amputation. The goal was to see which approach better saves limbs and heals wounds. Researchers tracked whether patients avoided major amputation and how well their symptoms improved.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Endovascular revascularization (angioplasty)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could help doctors decide whether to open one or multiple blocked leg arteries to save limbs and heal wounds in people with critical limb ischemia.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, completed study with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Angioplasty carries risks like bleeding, vessel damage, or re-blockage.
