Shockwave vs balloon: which prepares hardened leg arteries better for stenting?

NCT ID NCT06112171

First seen May 17, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether using a special shockwave device to break up calcium in leg arteries works better than standard balloon angioplasty before placing a stent. About 120 people with severe peripheral artery disease and hardened blockages will be randomly assigned to one of the two methods. The goal is to see which approach leads to a better opening of the artery with fewer complications.
