First seen Dec 10, 2025 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 30 times
Summary
This study tested whether adding extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) to standard physiotherapy helps young adults with chronic mechanical neck pain. Fifty-two participants received either ESWT plus exercise or exercise alone. Researchers measured pain, pressure sensitivity, neck movement, and function. The goal was to see if the shockwave treatment provides extra relief beyond exercise alone.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) plus exercise
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a non-invasive option to ease chronic neck pain and improve neck movement without drugs or surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed trial with only 52 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The treatment is an add-on to standard care, not a standalone cure.
