New scan could help doctors instantly know if IV fluids will help a patient in shock

Summary

This study is testing a new, quick ultrasound measurement to see if it can accurately predict which patients in shock will benefit from receiving IV fluids. Doctors will use a special ultrasound technique on the heart before and after giving fluids to 187 emergency room patients. The goal is to find a faster, more reliable way to guide this critical early treatment decision.
