New shingles pain study tests steroid injection for faster relief

Summary
This study tests whether a steroid medicine called dexamethasone palmitate can reduce pain from shingles and prevent long-term nerve pain. About 954 adults with severe shingles pain will receive the steroid by injection or standard care. The goal is to see if the steroid provides better pain relief and lowers the chance of lasting pain.
