Arm cuff before surgery may shield brain in older patients
NCT ID NCT07420153
First seen Feb 19, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This study tests whether a brief, controlled blood flow restriction to the arm (called RIPC) one day before non-cardiac surgery can reduce brain injury in older adults at risk for postoperative confusion. Researchers will measure brain injury markers in the blood of 216 participants aged 50 and older. The goal is to see if this simple, non-drug approach can protect the brain during surgery.
