Gene therapy aims to calm deadly heart rhythm disorder in first human test

NCT ID NCT07148089

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This early-stage study tests the safety of a single dose of SGT-501, a gene therapy for people with catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT), a rare inherited heart condition that can cause dangerous heart rhythms during exercise or stress. Up to 18 adults and children (ages 7 and older) will receive the treatment and be monitored for 5 years. The main goal is to check for side effects, with a secondary look at whether the therapy reduces abnormal heartbeats during exercise testing.
