Casting hope: new study tests simple treatment for burn scars

NCT ID NCT05425433

First seen Mar 21, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study looked at whether serial casting (applying a series of casts to gradually stretch tight skin) can improve arm movement and scar quality in adults with burn contractures. Twelve participants who had limited arm motion after a burn injury received one week of usual care, then serial casting if needed. Researchers measured range of motion, scar characteristics, and arm function before, during, and three weeks after treatment.
