First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study aims to understand if feeling like a machine (self-dehumanization) is a new risk factor for suicide. Researchers will ask 50 adults aged 18-40 to imagine a future where they are like a machine, then measure changes in suicidal thoughts and oxytocin levels in the blood. The goal is to learn more about how these factors are connected, not to provide a treatment.
