Could a simple test during pregnancy prevent preterm birth?

NCT ID NCT07592286

First seen May 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study will test whether regularly screening pregnant women for certain genital infections (even if they have no symptoms) can reduce problems like preterm birth and low birth weight. About 250 pregnant women will be split into two groups: one gets the extra screening and treatment, the other gets standard care. The goal is to see if this approach leads to healthier pregnancies and babies.

What could go wrong

The trial hasn't started yet, is relatively small (250 participants), and previous studies have shown mixed results, so it may not provide a clear answer.
