Own cells may boost nerve repair after severe injury

NCT ID NCT03999424

First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated May 05, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This early-stage study tested whether using a patient's own Schwann cells (cells that support nerve healing) during nerve repair surgery is safe. Five adults with severe nerve injuries in their arms or legs took part. The main goal was to check for side effects, not yet to prove the treatment works.
