Saliva enzyme may reveal hidden healing clues after wisdom tooth removal

NCT ID NCT07600619

First seen Jun 05, 2026 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study looked at whether a natural enzyme in saliva, called alpha-amylase, can help doctors see how well the mouth heals after wisdom tooth surgery. Twenty-eight adults had their impacted wisdom teeth removed. Half received a special blood-based clot (PRF) in the socket to help healing, while the other half got standard care. Saliva samples were taken right after surgery and again on days 3 and 7. The goal was to see if the enzyme levels changed differently between the two groups, which could lead to a simple, painless way to track healing in the future.
