New breathing measure could help doctors know when to remove ventilator

NCT ID NCT06945952

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a new measurement, combining breathing rate with diaphragm thickness changes, can better predict when a patient can safely come off a breathing machine. Researchers will compare this new method to standard tests in 140 adults who are ready to try breathing on their own. The goal is to improve decision-making and reduce the need for re-inserting the breathing tube.
