Shock and roll: electrical zaps boost robot rehab for stroke patients?

NCT ID NCT05570838

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study looked at whether adding functional electrical stimulation (FES) to robot-assisted therapy (RAT) helps people who had a stroke or brain injury within the past year improve arm and hand function. About 70 participants were split into two groups: one got standard rehab plus RAT and FES, the other got standard rehab plus RAT only. The study was terminated early, so results are limited, but the goal was to see if the combo leads to better motor recovery.
