New blood thinner may reduce deadly bleeding in cirrhosis patients
NCT ID NCT07602062
First seen May 23, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a blood thinner called rivaroxaban can safely prevent further bleeding in people with liver cirrhosis who have both high-risk varices (enlarged veins) and a blood clot in the portal vein. About 175 participants will receive the drug starting 48 hours after an endoscopic procedure to treat varices. The goal is to see if the drug reduces complications like rebleeding, worsening fluid buildup, or need for a liver transplant.
