New ultrasound technique may spot heart trouble after lung surgery
NCT ID NCT05060302
First seen Jun 15, 2026 · Last updated Jun 21, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether a special heart ultrasound technique can predict serious heart problems in people recovering from lung surgery. 191 adults having planned lung surgery received ultrasounds before, two days after, and 15 days after their operation. Researchers tracked heart complications like irregular heartbeat or heart failure for 30 days. The goal is to see if this new measurement can identify high-risk patients earlier.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a better way to predict heart complications after lung surgery, helping doctors monitor patients more closely.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study, not a treatment trial. The new measurement method may not prove accurate enough for routine use.
As listed by the trial registrant
