Common cold virus lands thousands of kids in hospital – new study aims to find out why
NCT ID NCT07342582
First seen Jan 23, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 12 times
Summary
This study looks at why the common cold virus (rhinovirus) causes severe breathing problems in some children, leading to hospitalization. Researchers will follow 670 children, including healthy kids and those already in the hospital, to track which virus types are circulating and how the body's immune response differs. The goal is to better understand the disease, not to test a treatment.
