Light therapy may offer new relief for hay fever sufferers

NCT ID NCT05919316

First seen May 23, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether shining a special light inside the nose (rhinophototherapy) works as well as standard steroid nasal sprays for treating allergic rhinitis (hay fever). Thirty-five adults with newly diagnosed allergies received either light therapy or steroid spray for two weeks. Researchers measured symptom improvement and looked at nasal tissue samples to see if light therapy reduces inflammation without damaging the nose lining.
