App aims to boost opioid treatment start after ER visits

Summary

This study tested a smartphone app designed to help people with opioid use disorder begin and continue medication-assisted treatment after leaving the emergency room or hospital. The app used rewards to encourage patients to schedule and attend their outpatient Suboxone appointments. The study enrolled 41 adults and focused on whether the app increased treatment initiation and short-term abstinence from opioids.
