Ultrasound test may catch kidney danger before standard lab tests

NCT ID NCT06386796

First seen Mar 11, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a simple bedside ultrasound measurement, called the renal resistive index (RRI), can detect acute kidney injury earlier than usual methods in high-risk patients admitted to a surgical intensive care unit. Researchers will enroll 100 adults with conditions like severe pre-eclampsia, trauma, or sepsis. They will compare RRI results with standard kidney tests (blood creatinine and urine output) and a newer marker (cystatin C) to see which detects kidney damage first.
