Expanded access
Not a trial. This treatment can be requested outside a study, case by case, for people who qualify.
Expanded access (paused)
Not a trial. The treatment can normally be requested outside a study, but is unavailable right now.
Expanded access (ended)
Not a trial. The treatment could once be requested outside a study, but no longer can.

Summary

This trial tests whether a device called remote ischemic conditioning can safely help lower blood pressure in people with essential hypertension. The treatment involves inflating a blood pressure cuff on the upper arm to briefly stop blood flow, then releasing it, in repeated cycles. Researchers are comparing this approach plus standard medication against medication alone in 500 adults aged 30 to 75.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
a device-based treatment called remote ischemic conditioning, using a blood pressure cuff to temporarily stop blood flow to the arm
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to help control high blood pressure.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage trial, and the treatment is experimental. It may not lower blood pressure effectively, and the cuff inflation could cause discomfort or bruising.
