Extra stitches after rectal cancer surgery may cut dangerous leaks

NCT ID NCT07346534

First seen Jan 20, 2026 · Last updated Apr 24, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding extra stitches around the surgical connection after removing low rectal cancer can prevent leaks, a common and serious complication. About 300 adults with early-stage rectal cancer will be assigned to either standard surgery or surgery with reinforced stitching. Researchers will compare leak rates, recovery time, and quality of life to find the safer approach.
