First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 29 times
Summary
This study tests whether reading a storybook or watching an animation video before a dental visit can reduce children's anxiety more than the standard 'Tell-Show-Do' method alone. About 90 children aged 4 to 8 will be split into three groups: one gets only Tell-Show-Do, one gets a storybook at home first, and one gets an animation video. Their anxiety and cooperation will be measured using a child-friendly emoji scale.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Storybook and animation video as behavioral preparation tools
What this could lead to
If it works, this could give dentists a simple, low-cost way to make dental visits less scary for children.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 90 children, so results may not apply to all kids. The effect may be small or no better than the standard method.
