Text after ER visit could cut unnecessary returns
NCT ID NCT07185828
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 27 times
Summary
This study looks at whether sending a simple text message to people after a non-emergency ER visit can help them choose better healthcare options, like seeing their regular doctor or using an online triage tool. About 8,200 adults who visited a Geisinger ER for a low-urgency issue will be split into groups to see if the messages reduce repeat ER visits over the next four months. The goal is to learn if this low-cost approach can ease ER overcrowding and guide patients to more appropriate care.
