Will treated blood cells last as long as standard ones? new study aims to find out

NCT ID NCT07015437

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study looks at whether red blood cells treated with the INTERCEPT system survive just as well as untreated cells after being stored for 35 days. About 70 healthy adults will receive both treated and untreated labeled blood cells, and researchers will measure how many are still in the bloodstream after 24 hours and how long they last. The goal is to ensure the treatment doesn't harm the cells' ability to function after transfusion.
