Brain tumor surgery fluid linked to dangerous re-bleeding risk

NCT ID NCT07476404

First seen Mar 23, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study looked back at 300 adults who had surgery for large brain tumors (giant meningiomas) to see if using a fluid called hydroxyethyl starch (HES) during the operation increased the chance of re-bleeding or kidney problems. The main goal was to find out if higher amounts of HES led to more re-bleeding requiring a second surgery within 48 hours. The results help doctors decide which fluids are safest for these complex surgeries.
