Summary

This study tested a powerful combination of total bone marrow irradiation and high-dose chemotherapy (melphalan) followed by a stem cell transplant in 13 people whose multiple myeloma had returned after initial treatment. The goal was to find the safest highest radiation dose and see how well it controlled the cancer. The study was terminated early, so results are limited.
