Magic mushroom therapy targets Cancer's mental toll

NCT ID NCT05398484

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study tests whether a single dose of psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic mushrooms) combined with talk therapy can reduce anxiety, depression, and fear of death in people with advanced cancer. About 200 adults with stage 3 or 4 cancer will receive either psilocybin or a placebo (niacin). The goal is to improve emotional well-being, not to treat the cancer itself.
