New radiation method may spare patients painful mouth sores

Summary
This study compares two types of radiation therapy for people with head and neck cancer: proton beam therapy and standard photon therapy (IMRT). The goal is to see if proton therapy causes fewer side effects, especially painful mouth sores. About 108 adults with certain cancers (like salivary gland, skin, or head and neck cancers) will take part. Both treatments are already used, but this is the first direct comparison to find out which is gentler on healthy tissue.
