First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study is developing and testing an educational tool to help men aged 65 and older with prostate cancer decide with their doctors whether to reduce the frequency of follow-up tests like biopsies. The tool is being tested with 45 participants, including patients, caregivers, and clinicians, to see if it is easy to use and helpful. The goal is to support shared decision-making for men whose cancer is unlikely to progress or who may no longer need aggressive monitoring.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a practical decision aid that helps men and their doctors make more informed choices about reducing unnecessary tests.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage usability study with only 45 participants, so the tool may not work well for everyone or in real-world settings.
