New study could change how doctors treat serious lung infections
NCT ID NCT07550530
First seen Apr 26, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study compares two treatments for pleural infection, a serious lung condition where infected fluid builds up. One group gets standard care with medicines to break up the fluid, while the other gets an early keyhole procedure (medical thoracoscopy) to remove the fluid directly. About 170 adults will take part, and researchers will track who needs fewer additional procedures and recovers faster. The goal is to find the safest, most effective way to help patients get better.
