First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 40 times
Summary
This study is screening 2000 people aged 50 to 99 who do not have Parkinson's disease but may have early risk markers. Researchers will follow participants for five years to track changes in risk markers, motor skills, and non-motor symptoms. The goal is to better understand how Parkinson's develops and to set ethical guidelines for telling people about their risk.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help identify people at high risk for Parkinson's years before symptoms appear, enabling earlier monitoring and future prevention trials.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not lead to immediate benefits, and the risk markers studied may not reliably predict who will develop Parkinson's.
Conditions
