Could probiotics boost antibiotic success against gut bacteria overgrowth?

NCT ID NCT07426705

First seen Mar 08, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding a probiotic (containing Enterococcus faecium and Bacillus subtilis) to the antibiotic rifaximin helps more people with SIBO get rid of the overgrowth and stay symptom-free longer. About 100 adults with irritable bowel syndrome and SIBO will be randomly assigned to receive either the probiotic or a placebo alongside their antibiotic. The goal is to see if the combination reduces relapse rates after treatment ends.
