Summary

This study tests whether taking a probiotic supplement for four weeks can influence emotional reactions in healthy adults aged 18-30. Participants will take either a probiotic or a placebo daily and undergo virtual reality scenarios to measure emotional responses. The goal is to see if the probiotic can reduce feelings of unpleasantness in social situations, potentially offering a natural way to support mental well-being.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Probiotic supplement
What this could lead to
If effective, this could point toward a simple, natural way to support emotional well-being in healthy people.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study, so results may not be conclusive. The effect on mental health is uncertain, and individual responses to probiotics can vary.
