Gut bacteria may help shrink rectal tumors before surgery

NCT ID NCT07458529

First seen Mar 14, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding a probiotic called Probio-M9 to standard chemoradiation and immunotherapy can help shrink tumors more effectively in people with locally advanced rectal cancer. About 50 adults with stage II or III rectal cancer will be randomly assigned to receive either the probiotic or a placebo alongside their treatment. The main goal is to see if more patients achieve a complete response (no cancer cells left) after the combination therapy and before surgery.
