First seen May 07, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tested whether people with ulcerative colitis can prevent symptom flare-ups by regularly testing a stool sample at home. The test measures calprotectin, a marker of gut inflammation, allowing doctors to adjust treatment early. Over 700 adults in remission participated, and researchers tracked how many experienced flares, needed steroids, or were hospitalized.
