Dialysis infection study: retraining cuts peritonitis risk
NCT ID NCT01293799
First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 15 times
Summary
This study looked at whether regularly testing and retraining new peritoneal dialysis patients on infection prevention can lower their risk of peritonitis, a serious infection of the belly lining. Over 700 adults who could do their own dialysis were split into two groups: one received standard care, the other had regular skill checks and extra training if needed. The goal was to see if the extra training helped prevent first infections and reduce hospital stays.
