Stoma fluid recycling may stop post-surgery bowel chaos

NCT ID NCT07537998

First seen Apr 29, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study tests a new way to prevent bowel control problems after rectal cancer surgery. People with a temporary stoma will receive either their own intestinal fluid or water through the stoma before it is closed. The goal is to see if the fluid reinfusion helps the bowel work better and reduces symptoms like urgency and leakage. 160 adults with mid to low rectal cancer are being recruited.
