Single labor pill aims to shield babies from dangerous infections

NCT ID NCT03925480

Summary

This study tested whether giving mothers a single dose of the antibiotic azithromycin during labor could prevent infections in their babies. Over 2,100 mother-baby pairs participated, with half receiving the antibiotic and half receiving a placebo. Researchers tracked the infants for a year to see if those whose mothers received the antibiotic had fewer skin infections and other illnesses.
